Postdoctoral Researcher, Univ. of Sherbrooke, Canada (1999–2001)

Worked with Prof. Benmokrane in a research project of “Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites for Concrete Bridge Deck Reinforcement,” at University of Sherbrooke. Sharing in developing standard test methods for FRP bars. I was also involved in a project of designing and testing bridge barrier walls and replacing steel with FRP reinforcement. I was also involved in durability testing of FRP.

Consultant, Florida Department of Transportation, Structures Research Center, Tallahassee (2000)

Perform shear and flexure tests on bridge girders strengthened with FRP composites. Review load test data and evaluate the test procedures for existing two bridges. Perform verification of the results against laboratory and field data from the load testing program.

Specification Manager, FOSROC (Burmah Castrol) (1996 –1998)

An International British Construction Chemical company. My work involved:

Laboratory testing of repair materials and protective coatings for concrete ,
Field investigation, pecifying & developing method statements for repair materials &methods.
Publishing 4 conference papers on materials and concrete performance and attending an international conference in Bahrain .
Holding presentations on structural repairs explaining materials high performance & compliance with specifications and repair methods.
Completion of training on repair material in the UK on NORCURE, a new electrochemical concrete treatment (Realkalization & Desalination).

Civil Engineer - Researcher, NWRC (1994 – 1996)

National Water Research Center, Egypt. Investigated damaged water structures and their repair and maintenance.

PhD Graduate Research Assistant, NCSU, USA (1990 – 1994)

North Carolina State University, Shared in preparing a proposal to the NCDOT. We conducted the experimental and analytical research program to test two 1/4 scale model bridges and published the report of “Jointlesss Bridge Decks” FHWA/NC/95-006 in September 1995. I developed a non-linear finite element analysis program to investigate the performance of bridges, to model concrete girders and decks, investigate the structural behavior of deck- continuous bridges and the deck connection element under different loading conditions, and the assessment of bridge rehabilitation.

Instructor & Teaching Assistant, NCSU (1991- 1994)

North Carolina State University,

Taught FORTRAN, Math, Physics, Statics, Dynamics and Strength of Materials.

Structural Engineer - Trainee, NCDOT, USA (1991)

North Carolina Department of Transportation, Highways Division, Raleigh, NC. Observed bridge design, analysis, and construction practice.

Civil Engineer - Trainee, FHWA, USA (1990)

Federal Highway Administration's Turner Fairbank Research Center,

Virginia, U.S.A. Training on design of bridge decks and girders.

Structural Engineer (1985 – 1989)

Building Research Center & Structural Design Office, Cairo, Egypt.

Design structural elements, concrete & steel buildings.

Graduate Researcher, Cairo, Egypt (1985 – 1988)

Cairo University/ Building Research Center, Involved in experimental research on strengthening and repair of concrete structural elements.
